Amber Cove at a glance
Amber Cove is Carnival's cruise port at Bahía de Maimón, on the north coast of the Dominican Republic. It sits about 12 km (roughly 20 minutes by car) from the centre of Puerto Plata, and has its own shops, restaurants and pools right at the pier.
Our base, at the entrance to Playa Teco in Maimón, is only a few minutes from the port. That is why our buggy and ATV tours can start almost as soon as you step off the ship, and why you spend your day riding instead of sitting in traffic.

Buggy and ATV tours take 2 to 2.5 hours, horseback rides 1.5 to 2 hours, the monkey experience about 2 hours, and the Damajagua waterfalls 4 to 5 hours including transport. Pick a start time that leaves a comfortable margin before the ship's all-aboard time and we meet you at the pier then.

Where do I meet you at Amber Cove?
We meet you at the pier. Your driver waits with a sign with your name, and we confirm the exact meeting spot by email or WhatsApp after you book. Please be ready about 10 minutes early.
How far are the tours from the ship?
Our base at Playa Teco in Maimón is only a few minutes from the port. The Damajagua waterfalls are about 30 minutes away, and Puerto Plata's old town is about 12 km (around 20 minutes) from Amber Cove.
Will I be back before the ship leaves?
Yes. Tell us your all-aboard time when you book and we plan the tour backwards from it. We guarantee you are back at the pier before your ship sails.
Which tour is best if I only have a few hours?
The buggy or ATV tour (2 to 2.5 hours) or the monkey experience (about 2 hours) fit almost any port day. The Damajagua waterfalls need 4 to 5 hours, so they work best when the ship is in port all day.
Are these tours private?
Yes. Every tour is just your group, with your own guide and driver. There are no shared buses and no strangers added to your tour.
How do I pay, and what is the cancellation policy?
Pay in full online, or reserve with a 20% deposit and pay the balance on arrival in US dollars. Bookings made through our Viator listing can be cancelled free up to 24 hours before the tour. For direct bookings, message us on WhatsApp as early as you can. If severe weather stops a tour, we reschedule or refund you in full.
Can children come along?
Yes. Children can ride as passengers from age 4 when seated with an adult. Drivers of buggies and ATVs must be 12 or older and need a parent or guardian's consent.
Do you also pick up at Taíno Bay?
Yes. We serve both Puerto Plata cruise ports, Amber Cove and Taíno Bay, and can also pick up from hotels in the Puerto Plata area.
